Benidorm implements Wi-Fi on all its beaches and expects 2 million users per year
BENIDORM. The City Council of Benidorm will implement the first “smart wifi” network in the entire city within a period of four years. This is the pilot that is being established in the city thanks to the collaboration with the company Wiongo, based in Mallorca. As explained on Wednesday by the mayor, Toni Pérez , the free internet service is now available throughout the Levante beach as well as in the Castle, and in the month of April will proceed to the full installation at Poniente beach.
Mauricios Socias , CEO and founder of Wiongo, explained that it is a trained network so that there is a maximum of 20,000 active users at the same time, something that they do not believe will be exceeded. Of course, the forecasts handled by the company is that it can even exceed two million users per year.
The mayor highlighted “the effort and work” done by the City Council, Visit Benidorm and Wiongo in the last nine months to develop this project, which is “at zero cost for the municipal coffers and for the foundation” and that will progressively be extended to other points in the city.
The Levante network consists of 30 connection points installed in the street furniture. The sessions last 30 minutes “for security” and “to avoid abuses by automatisms”, as Manuel Bas, Development Manager of the company, stated . After this time, users can reconnect to the network. A connection that is made “without barriers” and “with aggregate anonymous data”, as indicated by Bas. These data are then complemented with those that provide tools such as Google Analytics and that allow users to profile their users.
That is where the Visit Benidorm Foundation comes into play, since through these data you can develop your own strategies for tourism in the coastal town. Thus, from the company specified that the data is always anonymous, but that they can know the sex, age or place of origin of the same, as well as their preferences through the websites visited.
In addition, the connectivity map will allow to know the flow and concentration of people in different points of the city and also their tastes and preferences.
